This year's stewardship theme comes from the Spiritual, Plenty Good Room : In God’s house there is always room for more: more ideas, more people, more ways to share, more stories to tell. And in the world that God created, there is more needed: more love, more connection, more peace, more creativity. Plenty Good Room reminds us that there is always room in God’s house; we just need to make ourselves at home and invite others to join us. The ways we steward our relationships, resources, and responses to grow ministry and serve our neighbors are the ways we connect our gratitude to our generosity. There’s Plenty Good Room in God’s House; pull up a chair and sit down.

Proportional Giving: Growing Generosity as We Grow
"Proportional giving" means giving a percentage of your income rather than a fixed amount — a gift that grows as your income grows, and adjusts when circumstances change. It's the pattern St. Paul described when he asked believers to give "as God has prospered" them (1 Corinthians 16:2): not a rigid number, but a rhythm of generosity tied to what we actually have.
This is Plenty Good Room stewardship in action. Just as God's house always makes space for more — more people, more ideas, more ways to belong — proportional giving makes space for our generosity to grow over time. It meets us where we are right now, without shame or pressure, and simply invites us to take the next step: 2% becomes 3%, 5% becomes 7%, on the way toward the tithe and beyond.
Proportional giving turns generosity into a practice rather than a one-time decision. It keeps our gratitude and our giving connected, season after season, so that as God prospers us, our response to God prospers too.
Try it: Use the chart below to calculate what percentage of your income you currently give. Then prayerfully consider one small step up — not out of obligation, but as a way of pulling up your chair a little closer to the table.
Why make a proportional gift?
Recently retired Bishop of Olympia, the Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel, stated that the tithe is only the beginning point. As Christians we give one hundred percent of what we have in gratitude for God who gave us everything there is. We’re all in.
When you make a proportional gift:
You set aside your first fruits, dedicating a portion of your wealth, works, and wisdom to God. This is a sacred act.
Your financial gift rises and falls with your income – it is right-sized to your household.
Giving back to God is a life-time journey; setting a percentage allows you to step up your giving over time.
