History Project Update 4/24/23

So, what’s happening with our history project that’s looking at discovering and documenting
“historic complicity in racism in our parish of St Paul’s and communities?” Well as you can see
from all the books and papers in this picture, we have been hard at work. Reading and
researching books and records, getting advice from other parishes who have done this and the
Diocesan archivist, so we know we are on the right track. We were pleased on Monday to have
a visit from Father Daniel to catch him up on our efforts so far. We meet twice a month at Mill
Hill and on May 8, 2023 we will be looking at our parish registers to check the names of owners of
enslaved people in our parish since our founding in 1737 and to find out the names of enslaved
or free people of colour who worshipped, were baptized, married or buried in our church yard.

There is a lot of work to do and we would welcome your participation. We also hope soon to begin hearing stories from those who have been in our parish for a great part of its history and share their truth with us.
