Confirmation &

Reception

Confirmation is the sacramental rite in which the candidates "express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop" (BCP, p. 860).  It is an opportunity to recommit to the responsibilities accepted by your parents and Godparents at the time of your baptism, and receive laying on of hands by a bishop (BCP, p. 412).

If you have been Confirmed in another denomination, and would like to reaffirm your Baptismal vows in the Episcopal Church, you can be "received" into the Episcopal Church during a special service that at which the Bishop will preside.
