In the seventeenth century, the viola bastarda style was the flashiest way for a musician to show off his or her virtuosic, improvisatory chops on the viola da gamba. David Ellis (of les soûls d’amour fame) joins Jake Street for a gamba-harpsichord program, featuring dastardly Bastarda works of Francesco Rognoni, the maze-like machinations of Marin Marais’s Le Labyrinthe, and more.
